Sakleshpur is a town which is located in the state of Karnataka. It is also a hill station which is located in the foothills of the Western Ghats in the Malnad region. This place is surrounded by many coffee plantations, tea plantations, and also many spices. It is because of these that the economy of Sakleshpur is prospering.For all those who love trekking this place is the best for them. Recently a lot of tourism development has taken place in Sakleshpur because here there are many natural and also man made places here which when one visits it will be a beautiful experience.


TRANSPORTATION AND BEST TIME TO VISIT THE PLACE


The Mangalore Airport is the closest airport to Sakleshpur. From the airport one will have to take a bus or a taxi to reach Sakleshpur.The Sakleshpur railway station is close to the town. From there again one can take either a bus or a taxi to reach the town. When it comes to travelling by road one can travel by bus or it is also possible to travel by taxi to Sakleshpur. The best time to visit Sakleshpur is during the winter season which is from the months of October to March.

PLACES TO VISIT


The Manjarabad Fort here is a unique fort. It was built by Tipu Sultan and this fort showcases Islamic architecture.This fort is located at an elevation of approximately 3200 feet above sea level. An interesting thing here is the octagonal design of this fort with eight walls. If one takes a look at the aerial view of this fort it resembles a star. This fort also has just one level as compared to other forts which have multiple levels.One also gets to see the Arabian sea from here.The purpose behind building the fort was to store ammunition and also protect the army of Tipu Sultan. An exciting and adventurous thing to look out for here are the numerous chambers that are built within the fort and also a tunnel here which will take the visitor to the Srirangapatna Fort.

Another famous tourist attraction here is the Sakaleswara Temple. This temple is the place from where Sakleshpur  got its name and it showcases Hoysala architecture. It was built at a time when the Hoysala Empire was at its peak in South India. Since this temple is situated along the banks of the River Hemavathi one gets to see beautiful scenic views from here. Here one also finds a huge statue of Lord Shiva which many people come to see.

For all those who love trekking they should definitely go to Agni Gudda Hill. The term Agni Gudda means Fiery Mountain because this hill is prone to volcanic eruptions. The hill is surrounded by rice terraces and it offers a very relaxed atmosphere to the tourist who comes here. Apart from trekking, one can also indulge in other activities such as camping and also have a picnic here.

The Bisle View Point is one of the most amazing places to visit in Sakleshpur. This point is located near the Bisle Ghat. From this viewpoint one gets to see the three beautiful mountain ranges of Yenikallu Betta, Doddabetta and Pushpagiri and Kumaraparvatha. One will have to go trekking in order to reach the view point. On the trek it is possible for one to spot wild animals and one also gets to see various waterfalls and streams.

The Kukke Subramanya Temple is another temple which one can visit. It is a notable temple in Karnataka. It is believed that this place is the abode of the nagas. Lord Subramanya is the main deity of this temple. According to a popular tale it is believed that Lord Subramanya offered shelter to Vasuki who was a divine serpent  and also others from Garuda when he threatened him. The two important Sarpa Dosha Poojas which are the Aslesha Bali Pooja and also Sarpa Samskara  take place in this temple.

The Betta Byraveshwara Temple is another place that one can visit. This place is known for having a temple which is an ancient one and is also 600 years old. It is believed that the Pandavas stayed here when they were in exile. Since this place is surrounded by hills one can visit hills like Jenkal Gudda and also Pandavar Gudda and indulge in activities like trekking and sightseeing on these hills.

Pandavar Gudda is another beautiful hill to see. According to Indian mythology it is believed that this was the home of the Pandavas during their exile in Mahabharata. The Archaeological Survey of India has declared that the temple here is almost about 1000 years old. This place has a beautiful landscape which is suitable for a good picnic and also one can trek to this hill.

The Manjehalli Waterfalls are another beautiful place to visit. This waterfall is also known as Abbi Falls. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoon season because it is the best time to swim in the waterfall and enjoy the beauty of nature there.

For all those who love trekking the most exciting trek that they can go for is the Green Route Trek. It is also known as the Railway Trek. During this trek one comes across many waterfalls,valleys, tunnels and also old  railway bridges. One also gets to see a variety of flora and fauna here. There are also beautiful landscapes which one gets to see during the trek. Thus truly this is a trekker's paradise.

The Hemavathi Reservoir is another amazing place to visit. This dam was built across River Hemavathi in 1979. It is also known as the Gorur Dam and looks beautiful when one sees the water gushing down from the dam. There is also a green garden close to this dam which is a picnic spot. Early morning one can find many different types of birds here.

Thus, Sakleshpur is truly an amazing place to visit.
